A bouncy folk rock tune that lyrically is inspired by tracks like 'Sympathy for the Devil' by the Rolling Stones and 'Man of a Thousand Faces' by Marillion. Part of a concept album I wrote during my Master's degree and never released.

A serpent's grin as I played my part
The nagging whisper of a tell-tale heart
But I'm the one to blame
I've broken oaths graven on your bones
I've made liars out of saintly thrones
Without me who'd cast the first stone?

What scares the beasts beneath your bed?
Who corrupts the voices in your head
When you close your eyes who do you let in?
Alone in the dark everybody sins
Who leads the holy into temptation?
Who came first, no pale imitations?
Who's the itch under your skin?
Here in the dark you can call me sin
I've brought the mighty to their knees
I've coaxed monsters to their darkest deeds
A word from these lips is all the faithful need
To remind them of their shame
I'm the shadow of guilt cast in candlelight
I'm hope snuffed out by your bitter spite
